Owen Pugh Aggregates Ltd on-site Laboratory provides technical services to ensure products meet relevant specifications & to satisfy environmental conditions set down in our operating conditions.
Materials Testing:
Regular material compliance testing performed in our on-site laboratory:
- Particle Size Distribution (Grading)- BS EN 933-1
- EDTA analysis
- Moisture content
- Constituent Parts (Recycled aggregate) – SHW Clause 710
Periodic testing undertaken to assess the aggregates properties:
- Los Angeles Co-efficient
- Micro Deval Co-efficient
- Magnesium Sulphate Soundness
- Particle Density & Water Absorption
- Total Sulphur content
- Acid Soluble Sulphate content
- Frost Heave
Monitoring:
- Noise
Monthly noise monitoring of the site is conducted by our technical team to measure noise emanating from our site. Restrictions are imposed by the Local Authority to ensure our operations to not have a detrimental effect on the surrounding area.
- Groundwater
Samples of groundwater from the local aquifer are pumped up via boreholes & analysed for various determinants. This is to ensure the local water quality is not being affected by the landfill.
- Leachate
The amount of leachate produced by the landfill is measured & samples taken for analysis.
- Gas
Although generation of landfill gas is not anticipated due to the inert nature of the deposited waste, monitoring is conducted regularly via gas boreholes.
- Particulate
Deposit gauges are set in specific positions around the site as a means of measuring atmospheric dust. Dust is collected in these ‘frisbee’ gauges via dry or wet deposition & can be analysed for amount & content.
Again limits are imposed by the LA & Environment Agency to ensure the surrounding area is protected.
